Welcome to DyeSmithy
The DyeSmithy is all about beautiful and unique hand-designed fabrics and great service to our customers. I have hand-dyed, snow-dyed, discharged (bleached), airbrushed and painted yardage. There are gradation packets , I offer patterns and kits of hand-dyed fabric for them. And if you don’t find what you’re looking for, just ask and I’ll do a custom order to your specifications. All of the fabrics were handmade by Janet Jo. To shop on this site, just click on one of the product categories and peruse the offerings. All purchases are made with a credit card through the secure paypal site.
Now I’ve added custom-dyed long and short sleeved Tshirts to my inventory. You purchase online and I’ll dye your shirt the colors of your choosing. No two shirts are alike. You will receive a one-of-a-kind garment that will get your compliments from strangers! Contact me with your choice of sleeves, size and colors desired. I can make a shirt of blended colors or a star burst design. The shirts are 100% cotton, but will have been washed and preshrunk during the process.
For those of you who have had trouble with fabrics bleeding and back staining, whether they were hand dyes or commercial fabrics, here is a link to a site by Vicki Welsh. She is also a hand dyer and has experimented with methods to remove that pesky dye staining. It’s a great article on what to do. Vicki Welsh, unstaining quilts
While I have many items on this site, you can also shop for DyeSmithy products on etsy.com. And if you’re in beautiful Colorado, you’ll find DyeSmithy fabrics at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in downtown Golden. You can enjoy their quilt exhibits when you shop.
Classes and Presentations
Janet Jo Smith, owner of DyeSmithy, offers dyeing classes at your location or at the DyeSmithy studio. Also available are group or guild programs about family quilts and copyright law. See the “Classes and Presentations” page for more details and contact Janet to schedule.
Be sure to enjoy the quilt gallery with quilts made by Janet and friends. They are great examples of how hand dyes can be used in a variety of styles of quilts from traditional to art.
