Janet Jo Smith
As the owner of DyeSmithy, I wear a number of hats. Besides the daily business paperwork and emails, there’s all that fabric to dye, paint, discharge and airbrush! I really enjoy teaching and speaking as it gives me the opportunity to meet wonderful, fun quilters. Those activities have given me many happy memories. I also have a classroom space and dedicated dye room where I can teach in my mountain home. Lunch on the deck, soaking up some sun and taking in the pine-scented air are just part of the experience.
As a lawyer, I am able to share my knowledge of copyright law as it applies to quilters and other visual artists. I love writing articles for the quilting magazines. As with teaching, my speaking engagements allow me to meet lots of other quilters. Occasionally, I advise clients who have copyright issues.
In between, I get to make a few of my own quilts. And now that I have my first grandbaby, I have lots of work to do!
