Four more dyed shirts

July 5, 2012

I’m planning to dye a few more shirts today. I think I need to come up with some new ways of clamping and dyeing so I get a little different patterning. But what I did yesterday was pretty successful. I’ve chosen a whole new set of colors too.

Back to today. These are the before and after pictures of the last four shirts from yesterday’s dye day. Hope you enjoy!

Not all shirts have to begin white!

These little clips came from the office supply store.

There were a couple of experiments here. One was overdyeing the green shirt. I chose to use a darker green and I think it worked out. Being able to use shirts of various colors greatly expands the possibilities. Next time I think I’ll try using a different color on the overdye.

The other experiment was with shirts that contained a small amount of Spandex. I thought it might lighten the value of the dye. But, the 3-5% Spandex didn’t seem to affect them. All of these shirts are primarily cotton.

I really appreciate seeing the process photos along with the finished product. I am impressed with your resourcefulness in the ‘tools’ you use for your resist. The office clips are a genius move! Keep up the great work!

Love the colors. My daughters would have bleach battles! You should see the shirts I saved with silk screens… I miss those days. At the time, I was NOT too happy, tho LOL
I used clothes pins and rubber bands… no rust :>
