Colorado has been so hard hit by the flooding over the past few days. The people lost, the homes destroyed and the towns devastated. I don’t think anyone has been left untouched in some way. My husband’s office in Boulder has been closed since last Thursday as water was seeping in. So many friends are in the affected areas. We’re lucky, our home is out of the flooded zone. We’re soggy, but fine.
Quilters too are being affected. The annual Quilt-A-Fair event, sponsored by the Colorado Quilting Council, has been canceled this year. It is normally held in the exhibits building of the Boulder County Fairgrounds. But, this year FEMA and the national guard are using the building as their staging area. Dozens of vendors and exhibitors and thousands of visitors will be disappointed as the event is looked forward to every year. My business, DyeSmithy, is one of the vendors who won’t be there.
Wishing all good things to the people who have lost so much. This is a small sacrifice by our quilting community for the recovery effort.
