Snow Dye vs. Parfait dye

Snow dyed with primaries

With all of the chat on the quilt art list about whether snow dyes produced a different look than multi-layer dyes, I had to experiment. I already knew that I thought they looked quite different. I love the soft, sometimes floral, look the snow gives the fabric. I suppose it’s the slow dispersal. The following are photos of two pieces of cotton muslin, each dyed with the three primary colors from the same dye concentrate.

I’m finding that all of my snow dyes are very soft – edges have soft, watery look. With the scrunched multi-layers, I get a more crystal-like sharpness in the shapes. Fun experiment!
