The start of a new quilt

June 8, 2012

For the last few years I’ve been trying to use my hand dyed fabrics in my quilts – despite a large stash of commercial fabrics. Over the last few months, I’ve been learning to use Electric Quilt to design some quilts. One of these designs was accepted by Quilter’s Newsletter to be published in their upcoming Fat Quarter special.

This is a very pretty design. It’s simple and traditional. It has bright, clean colors in hues of green and blue, with creams and tans as background. The magazine allows one fabric with yardage to use as borders, bindings, etc. I chose to use a clear green.

Trouble is, although I’m thrilled to have my design accepted, I was then faced with the task of dyeing a variety of fat quarters in a limited palette.  I did dye a lot! And these photos show the results, or at least the pieces I selected to use in the quilt. Wish me luck!!

This is the final selection of fabrics

Now I’m off to my little studio to cut patches!
